No Child Left Behind Obtains The Failing Grade!
From 2002, the Federal government, through Act of Congress, enacted their controversial No Child Left Behind Act(NCLB) . This approach was planned to develop the primary and secondary school student’s comprehension, mainly in the fields of English as well as math. Although this is an admirable objective, the construct of the plan has hit a brick wall to bring the sought after results. Several educators have laid the blame on the method laid out inside the No Child Left Behind method. With its target squarely on English and math, students, teachers and administrators face a task which imposes punishments if the goals are not achieved.
Such punishments have the form of rescinded Federal financing, which creates a catch- 22 kind of problem. Even the funding which is appropriated has not been received by the towns. This is standard procedure since the inception of No Child Left Behind. In 2002, approximately$ 4. 2 billion bucks which was appropriated in no way reached the states. In 2007, this financing gap grew to an amazing$ 14 billion dollars! To add to the monetary woes of the school districts, states all around the country were going through budget shortfalls in revenues, due to the state of the general market.
It resulted in many states determining it necessary to generate budget cuts in several sections, such as, you guessed it, schooling! Although schools are expected to administer standard tests in English as well as math, the testing protocol of No Child Left Behind does not stretch to other courses. Some schools were forced to drop alternative subjects from their curriculums if they were to sustain the Federal financing. This doesn’t seem like a wholesome overhaul of our academic system.
